Why this is an estimate
Our homepage states that the Saudi market loses roughly SAR 1.5 billion a year on parcels that ship and come back unsold. This is a CODsure estimate, not a published figure. We searched Saudi government sources, press and industry reports in both Arabic and English and found no published number for this. Rather than cite something unsourced, we derived it from disclosed inputs and show the full working below.
Derivation
| Step | Assumption | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi e-commerce market | ~SAR 100bn/year | |
| Average order value | ~SAR 250 | ~400m orders |
| COD share of orders | ~25% | ~100m COD orders |
| RTO rate on COD orders | ~20% | ~20m failed deliveries |
| Wasted shipping | 2 × SAR 25 (out and back) | ~SAR 1.0bn |
| Handling, packaging, held stock | +50% (conservative) | ~SAR 1.5bn |
Sensitivity
Across plausible ranges for each input the result spans SAR 0.3bn to 2.3bn. The headline figure sits in the upper half of that range, which is why we present it as an estimate rather than a fact.
The weakest input
COD's share of orders. Published estimates range from 15% to 55%, and it moves the answer more than anything else here. If a credible figure becomes available we will rerun this and update the page in whichever direction the data points.
What we do not claim
This number describes the size of a market problem, not CODsure's performance. We publish no confirmation rate and no RTO-reduction figure, because we do not yet have customer data to support one. When we do, we will replace this estimate with measured results.
